But you just CANNOT compare Hunter X Hunter's brilliant storytelling to the mediocre-at-best Naruto. I do give Kishimoto leeway, because a lot of Naruto was spoilt because of shonen jump trying to milk the franchise and also this being Kishimoto’s first major venture. The complexity and vast variety of topics explored in HxH is so great that if you asked me to summarize HxH in a single sentence, I'd remain silent. The aspect of strategy in battle, which was once well done in Naruto, is consistent THROUGHOUT HxH. Hunter X Hunter also does NOT rely on power boosts at all. Naruto as a show hides behind the wall of the protagonist, but Hunter X Hunter is almost like an organism, where everything about the story is just an extension of its characters. Naruto's own journey is done very well, but that of most of the other characters is subpar. You see, a good story is not about the goal, it's about the journey. A lot of people compare the goal of Naruto to that of Gon, saying that Naruto has a more complex goal, but I disagree. The whole point of Naruto was to show that you can grow too no matter how weak you are. But soon we get to the point where Naruto himself is so great purely because of circumstance, and that not all ninjas are made equal. Naruto got to where he is because he was born with things other people didn't have, which ultimately leads to the conclusion that the show fails itself. Also, the entire part about Naruto bringing back Sasuke right to the end of the show is absolute crap, because Sasuke is so poorly done as a character that no one really gives a shit as to whether he comes back or not. In a sense, Naruto grows to contradict itself. Strategy plays a role less prominent than power. After a certain point it just becomes a dick measuring contest.

You just keep getting these power boosts to become stronger, to the point where you become a God. There are no consequences for powering up. I do admit it's for a younger audience, but Naruto goes too far. A very good example of excellence in characterization is during the Chimera ant arc, when Meruem, the monster, becomes human, while Gon the human becomes a monster. How do I know that? Because unlike characters in Naruto, a significant character in Hunter X Hunter cannot be described in a single sentence. And that is a testament to Togashi's mastery of character development. They feel like real people, even the villains . Hunter X Hunter does an excellent job at characters, save for Genthru. In my opinion, no real friendship works on the basis of this crap. The dynamics between Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura is one based on lust, envy and bitter feelings. It’s a friendship built on a pile of shit, to be brutally honest. The crux of Naruto is based on the bonds between Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura. Naruto also has major problems regarding character relationships. The villains are also simple, but I have to admit Kishimoto does a better job than most. Although Naruto himself did have good character development, I think that it's a requirement for the mc to develop. Naruto is also a Jesus figure, an idealised underdog. Contrast this with Kurapika, whose goals were made flexible, a decision that Togashi wisely made. Sasuke's motivations are so rigid that the story suffers as result. Sasuke and Sakura are so terribly done that almost no serious viewer I know has felt sad when Sasuke left the village, nor could they sympathise with Sakura. Heck, my favourite character was Shikamaru and no one else, because he was competent at the very least. Naruto's characters are extremely simplistic. The following are elusive points as to why I think HxH is better than Naruto But Hunter x Hunter has a certain balance to everything, each and every single side character in the show develops quite alright alongside the main character, Gon. But we've got to admit ,there are alot of annoying points to watching Naruto.īe it the spoilers and the poor character developments even the Main rival's development was off. Its no doubt that Naruto is one of the world's most popular anime ,if not for the epic fights and soundtracks.
